About Us
Avu Lagoon
You are most welcome to the home of history and adventure! The people of Avu Lagoon CREMA say woezor lo!
Nestled in the lower Volta Region sandwiched between the Aflao road and the Atlantic Ocean, the Avu Lagoon CREMA is a community-based conservation and ecotourism project. It is managed by a selected committee of board members from the 17 owning communities. This watery landscape is home to the world's only aquatic antelope: the sitatunga. In all of Ghana, this is the only location where this majestic creature still remains.
Sitatunga is only but one of many types of wildlife you may encounter on your visit with us. In addition, bird viewing can provide hours of entertainment, with the presence of numerous water dwelling species. Spend your mornings and evenings along the lagoon watch- ing out for and listening to calls of birds such as the African wattled jacanas (lilytrotters!), black crakes, white-faced whistling ducks, little bitterns and various species of herons and egrets.
